At Nook, customers relax or take-to-go in an approachable and cozy space, with energy that stimulates conversation as much as the click of a keyboard. Excessive comfort is key. We need food preps and baristas that build on this high level of comfort.
We are looking for food preps and baristas to prepare and serve food, coffee, tea, and draft beer. To be successful in this role, you should have customer service skills food operations, and barista knowledge. You should be able to work various shifts.
Note: this position’s compensation includes salary and tips.
Responsibilities:
Greet customers with respect and emotional intelligence.
Educate customers by presenting and explaining the menu.
Prep and cook basic food (e.g., avocado toast, sandwiches, parfaits, etc.). Food is a primary component of this job.
Prepare and sells coffee, tea, beer, and food by following prescribed recipes and techniques.
Generate revenue by attracting new customers and defining new and expanded experiences and products.
Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
Maintain inventories by replenishing food, coffee, tea, and beer supplies.
Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance.
Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
Improve quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; implementing changes; maintaining and improving the appearance of the store.
Enhance shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Regular cleaning of the cafe and bathroom.

SUPERVISOR BARISTA

We are looking for a Barista/ Shift Supervisor to oversee all operations during your shift, including updating and innovating on the menu and experiences, delegating tasks to baristas, maintaining customer satisfaction, training, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing events, and troubleshooting/fixing issues. You should be able to work various shifts.

Responsibilities:
Delegate tasks and supervise the performance of baristas.
Train, educate acclimate and upskill baristas.
Relentless focus on the products and workflow systems of each barista within the team while providing a positive influence.
Educate customers by presenting and explaining the menu.
Prepare and sells coffee, tea, beer, and bites by following prescribed recipes and techniques.
Prep and cook basic food (e.g., avocado toast, sandwiches, parfaits, etc.). Food is a major component of the job.
Track daily costs and revenues; balance the cash register at the end of the shift.
Open or close Nook (when responsible for the first or last shift).
Generate revenue by attracting new customers and defining new and expanded experiences and products.
Maintain inventories by replenishing coffee, tea, beer, and food supplies.
Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance.
Manage dialing in of coffees and calibration of grinders and brewing equipment through strong technical understanding of extraction and brew variables.
Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
Improve quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; implementing changes; maintaining and improving the appearance of the store.
Enhance shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Regular cleaning of the café and bathroom.
Manage our daily events (e.g. trivia, chess club, open mic, poetry slam, comedy show, fairs, etc.). Set up and close events.

Previous work experience as a Barista Shift Manager or relevant role; a keen interest in coffee.
Strong technical barista knowledge and skills (extraction, texturing, pouring).
Hands-on experience with brewing equipment.

Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced work environment.

Food safety certification.
